Pentagon Says US Blockade Cuts Iran Oil Revenue by $4.8 Billion
The Pentagon estimates a U.S. naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman has denied Iran about $4.8 billion in oil revenue since mid-April, underscoring the pressure Washington is putting on Tehran. Officials say 31 tankers carrying an estimated 53 million barrels of Iranian oil are stuck in the Gulf, and two vessels have been seized by U.S. forces.
Dozens of ships have been turned away, leaving Iran short on storage capacity and forcing it to use older tankers to hold excess crude. Some shipments are still getting through to China by taking longer, costlier routes.
