Samsung Chip Profit Jumps Almost 50-Fold on AI-Driven Memory Demand
Samsung Electronics reported first-quarter revenue of 133.9 trillion won, operating profit of 57.2 trillion won and net profit of 47.1 trillion won, topping the 46.2 trillion-won LSEG SmartEstimate. The chip business accounted for 53.7 trillion won of operating profit; semiconductor revenue rose 86% from the prior quarter to 81.7 trillion won, while memory revenue climbed 101% to 74.8 trillion won as AI-related demand, tight supply and higher average selling prices lifted margins.
Samsung said memory demand should remain strong in the second quarter and accelerate in the second half, even as semiconductor supply constraints continue in H2 and shortages worsen in 2027. The company expects high-bandwidth memory revenue to more than triple in 2026 from 2025, with capacity fully sold out, and plans to ship HBM4E samples in Q2 after launching mass production and sales of HBM4 for Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform.
