CPC Halts Oil Loading at Terminal Handling 1 Million BPD After Drone Strikes Hit Two Tankers
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium suspended oil loading operations at its marine terminal after drone strikes damaged two tankers moored at the facility. The attack targeted the Nissos Sifnos, operated by Chevron-controlled Tengizchevroil, while a second tanker, the Marathi, was also struck near the moorings. A fire on the Nissos Sifnos was extinguished by its crew, the vessel remained afloat and no casualties or oil spills were reported.
The suspension halts the flow of more than 1 million barrels per day of Kazakh crude, disrupting exports for Western shareholders including Chevron, ExxonMobil, Eni, Total and Shell. The pipeline itself remained operational. Repeated attacks at the terminal previously forced a week-long shutdown in May, following which operations resumed after Chevron lobbied the U.S. government. The consortium warned the incidents raise global energy security risks and threaten the safety of maritime crews.
