Pakistan Secures Safe Passage for Qatari LNG Shipment Through Hormuz, First in Three Weeks
Pakistan negotiated with Iran to secure safe passage for at least one Qatari liquefied natural gas shipment through the Strait of Hormuz, according to people with knowledge of the matter, allowing the first such crossing in three weeks. The LNG carrier Al Areesh, which had been waiting in the Persian Gulf since early July, passed through the strait and is heading to Pakistan.
The cargo helps ease Pakistan's energy shortage. The transit came after a three-week pause in Qatari LNG sailings through Hormuz after one of Qatar's tankers was targeted in the waterway.
