Johnson & Johnson Settles Talc Ovarian Cancer Claims for $5.5 Billion
Johnson & Johnson agrees to a $5.5 billion settlement to resolve tens of thousands of lawsuits alleging that its talc products, including baby powder, caused ovarian cancer. The deal requires plaintiff firms representing at least 95% of all pending state and federal claims to participate.
Under the settlement terms, the first payment of up to $3 billion is due in 2027, with no additional payments scheduled before 2028. The company maintains that its products are safe and would have won further litigation, calling the agreement an efficient conclusion to the disputes.
