Amazon Cuts Nova Model Lineup to Focus Engineering on Frontier Model Ahead of re:Konfer
Amazon is winding down development of most of its flagship Nova AI models, including Nova Premier, Omni, Reel and Canvas, to redirect engineering talent and computing resources to a smaller number of frontier projects.
Resources are shifting to the Frontier Model Research group, led by Pieter Abbeel, which is developing a new foundation model scheduled to debut at the company’s re:konfer conference later this year. The consolidation follows recent layoffs in the artificial general intelligence organization and the closure of its AGI Lab unit. Amazon will keep several smaller Nova models active and provide migration guidance for existing customers.
