China Says U.S. Caps Tariffs on Chinese Goods at 20% in Trade Talks
China stated that the U.S. agreed during trade talks to place a 20% ceiling on replacement tariffs for Chinese goods, establishing a new limit on the latest levies after President Donald Trump enacted the measures.
With current duties set at 12.5%, the agreement leaves a 7.5 percentage point buffer before reaching the cap. Beijing warned it will counter any new U.S. measures and called on Washington to remove unilateral duties, noting a separate American probe into China’s manufacturing sector could still trigger further levies.
