Saudi Arabia Intercepts Drones From Iraq as Houthis Claim Strikes on Abqaiq Oil Plant
Saudi Arabia intercepted and destroyed drones launched from Iraqi territory that targeted oil facilities in the Eastern Province and Riyadh, the defense ministry said, adding that the kingdom reserves the right to respond. Satellite imagery confirmed damage at Aramco’s Abqaiq processing plant, a key node on the east-west crude pipeline.
A Houthi military spokesperson claimed strikes hit crude oil transport targets linking eastern Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, citing Saudi drone activity in Yemeni airspace. Shipping traffic through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait fell to just 11 commodity ships on Sunday, the lowest level in months, data from firm Kpler showed.
