Pangram Raises $9 Million and Launches AI Text and Image Detection Models
New York-based AI detection startup Pangram raised $9 million in a funding round led by Menlo Ventures to launch two new models for identifying AI-generated content. Pangram 4 is a model 6 times larger than its predecessor, claiming a 1 in 10,000 false positive rate against humanized text and mixed-author content. The company is also releasing Pangram Image, a preview model designed to detect AI modifications in photographs.
Generative text currently makes up an estimated 35% to 50% of the internet, a problem Pangram aims to address for platforms including Substack, Quora, Google Classroom, the Internet Archive and NeurIPS. The startup reported that its business grew 35 times in the last year and more than five times since its previous funding round. Founders Max Spero and Bradley Emi previously worked on autonomous vehicle teams at Nuro and Tesla.
