Meta Falls 10% as AI Capital Expenditure Outlook Widens To $130 Billion And Free Cash Flow Slumps 91%

Meta shares fell more than 10% in after-hours trading after the company reported a 91% drop in second-quarter free cash flow to $784 million and raised its full-year capital expenditure outlook. The company now expects to spend between $130 billion and $145 billion in 2026 to fund servers, data centers, and network infrastructure, narrowing and raising the lower end of its prior forecast. Second-quarter capital expenditures reached $31.1 billion, driving free cash flow to its lowest level since the third quarter of 2022.

While revenue beat Wall Street estimates at $60.8 billion, earnings per share came in at $6.18, missing projections. Chief Financial Officer Susan Li declined to provide a specific capital expenditure forecast for 2027, stating infrastructure planning remains dynamic. Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg noted that market demand for compute continues to outpace supply, with external buyers offering the company a significant premium for access to its existing infrastructure.
