Iran Claims 3 Oil Tankers Hit in Strait of Hormuz
Iran said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy targeted three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, describing the vessels as operating on an "illegal course." One report said the tankers were hit by missiles while being escorted by the US Navy.
Iran did not identify the ships or give details on damage or casualties, and there was no immediate independent confirmation. Earlier this week, Iranian officials said vessels needed authorization to transit the strait and that talks with Oman over passage through Hormuz were continuing.
