Citadel Buys Bulk of Leopold Aschenbrenner Hedge Fund Portfolio After AI Stock Rout

businessstocks 75 posts · 43 accounts

Citadel bought the bulk of Leopold Aschenbrenner’s hedge fund portfolio after the firm suffered steep losses on artificial intelligence and software stocks, according to the Wall Street Journal and CNBC. The buyer executed a single-block transaction that cleared the entire public-equities book for both long and short positions at the fund, which hit a net asset value of $45 billion earlier in July.

The $20 billion fund is also seeking fresh capital from investors and lenders, according to the Financial Times. Prime brokers including Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase helped manage the exit as the firm sought to meet margin requirements following the recent technology sell-off. The fund will continue to operate as a private firm and will keep its $5 billion stake in AI model developer Anthropic.
