South Korean Margin Liquidations Hit 360,000 as Stock Rout Wipes Out $2 Trillion
More than 360,000 South Korean margin accounts have reportedly been liquidated, with nearly two-thirds held by investors under 35, as the country's stock market fell 44% in 40 days.
The selloff has reportedly wiped $620 billion off the KOSPI in two days and about $2 trillion in market value over 40 days, while pushing the benchmark below its 200-day moving average. The losses have drawn political criticism, with lawmaker Lee Jongwook saying during a hearing that "the country has turned into a casino."
