Nvidia Seeks $250 Billion Backstop For OpenAI Data Center, Pushes Credit Swap Prices To Record
Nvidia is in talks to guarantee roughly $250 billion in financing for OpenAI to lease a 10-gigawatt data center developed by SoftBank in Ohio. The chipmaker is separately discussing up to $350 billion to finance OpenAI’s GPU purchases, bringing its total AI infrastructure financing conversations past $750 billion, alongside a separate $500 billion partnership with SK Group.
Nvidia stock fell more than 5% and the cost of its five-year credit default swaps hit a record high, rising 0.14 percentage points to 0.82% on the disclosures. Investors and analysts warn that the complex capital structures and heavy debt supply could elevate the company’s credit risk and trigger rating downgrades, according to market data and financial press coverage.
