Microsoft Tops Earnings Estimates as Azure Growth Accelerates to 43%, Cloud Revenue Passes $100 Billion
Microsoft reported faster-than-expected cloud growth in its fourth fiscal quarter, sending shares up more than 15% on the stock exchange. Azure cloud revenue rose 43%, beating the average analyst estimate of a 40% increase and marking the fastest expansion since early 2022. The division’s annual revenue surpassed $100 billion for the first time, a milestone management attributed to efficiency gains across its CPU and GPU fleets and shorter lead times for new equipment. Leaders guided Azure growth to accelerate to 45% in the first half of the next fiscal year.
The results were anchored by broad enterprise demand, with nearly 90% of cloud revenue coming from customers outside frontier AI model developers. Microsoft 365 Copilot now has more than 30 million paid seats, up from a base of over 450 million across the productivity suite, while usage intensity and user satisfaction hit record highs. The company maintained its fiscal year capital expenditure guidance at $175 billion, noting that extending data center useful lives from 15 to 25 years provides operational flexibility to scale hardware purchasing if demand shifts.
