Asian Buyers Discuss Africa Reroute With Aramco After Houthi Tanker Attacks

businessenergy-marketsoilpoliticsmaritimewar 329 posts · 90 accounts

Asian crude oil buyers are in talks with Saudi Aramco about rerouting shipments around Africa after Houthis said they struck two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea as part of a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, traders familiar with the matter said.

Buyers are discussing alternatives to the Bab el-Mandeb chokepoint, including taking cargoes from Egypt's Sidi Kerir port instead of Yanbu, with oil potentially moved north by pipeline from Ain Sokhna, the traders said. South Korea's S-Oil has canceled at least one fuel cargo it had planned to sell in August as Red Sea threats affect feedstock supplies from the region.
