Anthropic Expands Claude Voice Mode to Opus and Sonnet Models After Three-Week Beta
Anthropic has updated Claude Voice Mode to route audio responses through its Opus and Sonnet models. The change concludes a three-week period in which a model selector was hidden in the user interface and defaulted to the Haiku model regardless of user input.
The updated system remains built on text-to-speech technology, handles voice interruptions well, and can operate Connectors. Access to a broader set of tools increases capability compared to ChatGPT's current voice feature, though managing usage for high-effort reasoning may prove difficult. Separately, observations of the software environment indicate early preparations for the Claude Opus 5 release.
