Ukrainian Drone Strike on Tanker Halts Second Day of Crude Loading at Russian Black Sea Terminal
The Caspian Pipeline Consortium suspended crude loading at its Black Sea terminal on Monday following a Ukrainian drone strike that hit the tanker Nelsa for the second time in days, the company said. The attack sparked a fire that was extinguished within several hours, though the consortium reported that oil spills were prevented at the facility that handles exports of Kazakh oil.
The terminal had briefly resumed operations on Sunday evening after a previous drone strike damaged two other vessels. The recurring attacks have prompted Kazakhstan to formally complain to Ukraine and demand an immediate halt to strikes on its export infrastructure, threatening crude supplies that European refineries increasingly rely on to replace Middle Eastern barrels.
