Aoun Tells Trump Lebanon Wants to End Israel Hostilities Forever and Secure Army Funding
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun told Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday that Beirut's primary goal is to permanently end hostilities with Israel under a U.S.-brokered framework, while pressing the administration to maintain financial and logistical backing for the Lebanese Armed Forces. Trump pledged sustained support for the military and offered to open direct channels with Hezbollah if requested by Beirut.
The White House visit coincides with the initial deployment of Lebanese troops to a southern pilot zone under the truce agreement, which Trump adviser Massad Boulos characterized as the first formal Israeli-Lebanese accord since 1949. Aoun used the meeting to address domestic political friction, telling reporters that parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri, who initially rejected the deal, is now fully supportive of the ceasefire implementation.
