Feds Charge Army Veteran in New York Federal Plaza Arson With 7-Year Sentence
A 43-year-old U.S. Army veteran has been charged with federal arson for setting a fire outside a New York City federal immigration court, a case carrying a seven-year mandatory minimum prison sentence.
The blaze was ignited at 26 Federal Plaza, which houses the headquarters of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and an FBI field office. Authorities labeled the suspect an anti-ICE extremist who was detained after making anti-government statements, while the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force continues its investigation.
