GitHub Sponsors Distributes More Than $100 Million to Open Source Maintainers and Projects

GitHub said its Sponsors program has distributed more than $100 million to open source maintainers and projects. The funding is channeled through more than 280,000 sponsors, ranging from individual developers to Fortune 500 companies.

The payouts currently support nearly 70,000 maintainers and organizations. Corporate partners including Shopify and Mercedes-Benz provide 40% of the total sponsorship funding. The company shared the milestone on July 20.
