Iraq Ships 1.4 Million Barrels of Fuel Oil to U.S. Gulf Coast Through Syrian Truck Route
A new truck-and-tanker pipeline is moving roughly 1.4 million barrels of fuel oil from Iraq to the U.S. Gulf Coast via Syria. The workaround relies on approximately 900 tanker trucks crossing the border each day to the port of Baniyas, where three Aframax tankers loaded the cargo between June and July.
The overland route bypasses the Strait of Hormuz, where tanker crossings have dropped to near zero following months of regional hostilities. Iraq stated it intends to keep the Syrian corridor operational once maritime traffic resumes, shifting a temporary crisis measure into a permanent supply hedge.
