Trump Pauses Iran Strikes, Tehran Signals Halt as Oil Slips More Than 5%
President Donald Trump paused US strikes on Iran, and Tehran signaled it would halt attacks as long as Washington maintains the pause. Oil prices slipped more than 5% after the US move.
US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said Trump was giving Iran talks "a little bit of room." CBS News reported the bombing pause came after Omani officials traveled to Tehran on Friday for talks, while Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said message exchanges with the US and mediators were continuing. Baghaei also said the Strait of Hormuz's status remained unchanged and that talks with Oman on safe transit had made progress.
