Houthis Claim Attack on 2 Saudi Oil Tankers in Red Sea; Saudi Confirms Fire on Encelia
The Houthis said they attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia later said one Saudi-owned vessel, Encelia, was hit and caught fire, adding that all crew members were safe.
UK Maritime Trade Operations earlier said a tanker had been struck by an unknown projectile that caused a fire onboard, but Saudi Arabia has publicly confirmed only the attack on Encelia. The Houthis said the strikes were part of a naval blockade on Saudi Arabia, and two Chinese supertankers carrying Saudi oil were later heading toward the Bab el-Mandeb strait to leave the Red Sea.
