Google, Microsoft Pledge $100 Million to DoE's $5 Billion Genesis Mission for AI Science
The Trump administration has allocated $5 billion for the Genesis Mission, a whole-of-government initiative led by the Department of Energy to leverage artificial intelligence and accelerate scientific discovery across 15 federal agencies. Microsoft and Google DeepMind have committed $60 million and $40 million, respectively, to the program, joining a coalition of infrastructure and model partners including Nvidia, AMD, and IBM.
Other contributors are providing model access and content to support the effort. OpenAI plans to provide $4 million in Codex access to 2,000 researchers, while Wiley has joined the consortium as the mission's sole scientific publisher. In a related announcement tied to the initiative, Arcee revealed a partnership with the DoE to develop Genesis-Science-1, a trillion-parameter-class open-weight model for scientific workflows.
