Trump Administration Imposes 10% to 12.5% Tariffs on 60 Trade Partners

politicstariffsbusinessmacroeconomics 106 posts · 49 accounts

The Trump administration said Thursday it will impose tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on imports from 60 trade partners at 12:01 a.m. ET on July 24 over alleged forced labor violations, replacing the temporary 10% global duties that expire at the same time. The tariffs will cover more than 99% of U.S. trade, and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said countries deemed to be on the right path will face about 10% while others will face 12.5%.

Officials said oil and gas, fertilizer and certain foodstuffs will be exempt, along with goods already subject to Section 232 national security tariffs and goods that comply with USMCA. Goods in transit will get a July 28 effective date, and a U.S. official said the measures do not simply replicate earlier IEEPA tariffs struck down by the Supreme Court.
