Trump Imposes 10% to 12.5% Tariffs on 60 Trading Partners to Replace Expiring Duties
The Trump administration imposes tariffs of 10% to 12.5% on imports from 60 trading partners, covering 99% of U.S. trade. The new duties, levied under Section 301 authority following a forced-labor investigation, take effect at 12:01 a.m. ET Friday. They will replace a temporary 10% global tariff that expires simultaneously.
The policy exempts oil, gas, fertilizer, food products, and goods subject to existing Section 232 and USMCA frameworks. Following the announcement, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney warned that Canada will pursue retaliatory measures, while Australian Trade Minister Don Farrell called the levies unjustified and pledged to push for their removal.
