EU Approves Paramount’s $110 Billion Warner Bros. Deal on Condition of Dropping Universal Joint Venture
The European Union granted antitrust approval to Paramount Skydance’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on Wednesday, contingent on the company unwinding a film distribution joint venture with Universal Pictures in Europe.
The regulatory clearance arrives as the transaction remains paused by a separate U.S. lawsuit, where a federal judge issued a 14-day restraining order requested by a 12-state coalition led by California. A hearing on the broader antitrust challenge is scheduled for Aug. 3. The delay pushes the deal past a Sept. 30 deadline, beyond which Paramount faces a penalty of $7 million per day.
