Hegseth Tells Senate Iran War Costs $37.5 Billion, Pentagon Seeks $67 Billion Supplemental Funding
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told the Senate Appropriations Committee that U.S. military operations in Iran have cost $37.5 billion to date, a figure that encompasses anticipated costs through Sept. 30. The disclosure marks a $9 billion increase from the Pentagon's previous expenditure estimates.
Hegseth used the hearing to advance a $67 billion supplemental funding package, splitting the request into $21 billion for military readiness and equipment replacement, and $46 billion to expand production lines and accelerate delivery of high-demand munitions and defense systems. During the session, lawmakers also questioned the administration on plans to redirect $75 billion in previously unobligated defense funds.
