SK Hynix Buys Intel’s Ohio Chip Campus for U.S. Memory Production Within Five Years
SK Hynix is in negotiations to acquire Intel’s semiconductor campus in New Albany, Ohio, with the goal of beginning front-end memory chip production in the United States within five years. The site covers approximately 4.05 million square meters and can accommodate eight fabrication plants, but the transaction requires government approval before closing.
The deal is expected to provide Intel with liquidity after its foundry division reported a $2.2 billion loss last year, while aligning with broader U.S. government pressure on South Korean chipmakers to expand domestic manufacturing. The final purchase price and timing remain under negotiation.
