South Korean Exports Surge 52.3% In Early July On AI Chip Demand, Pushing KOSPI Past 5% And Halting Program Buying

worldsouth-koreabusinessmacroeconomicsstocks 11 posts · 6 accounts

South Korea recorded a 52.3% year-on-year increase in exports for the first 20 days of July, driven by demand for artificial intelligence chips.

Provisional data showed a trade surplus of $12.2 billion for the period. The trade data fueled a rally in Seoul’s KOSPI index, which climbed more than 4.3% to extend a recent rebound. The rapid gain triggered a Korea Exchange buy-side sidecar, halting program buying for five minutes after the benchmark surpassed the 5% threshold. More than $175 billion in market value was added to South Korean equities during the session.
