Nvidia, Microsoft, 200 Tech Startups Urge Trump Administration to Block Open-Weight AI Bans
Nvidia, Microsoft, Palantir and nearly 200 other tech startups sent a joint letter to congressional policymakers urging the Trump administration not to ban or restrict open-weight artificial intelligence models, warning that premature limits would damage U.S. global competitiveness and stifle domestic innovation.
The coalition, which includes ServiceNow, Box, Dell, Replit and CrowdStrike, emerges as administration officials clash over technology policy. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is pushing a hardline stance focused on preventing intellectual property theft in overseas models, while Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has advocated for broader company access to cheaper foreign systems to maintain productivity.
