Saudi Arabia Intercepts Houthi Missiles After Houthis Accuse Riyadh of Striking Sanaa Airport
Saudi Arabia said its air defenses intercepted ballistic missiles launched by Yemen's Houthis toward the kingdom's southern region on Monday, after the group accused Riyadh of striking Sanaa airport. Iranian state-affiliated media and sources close to the Houthis said an Iranian Mahan Air passenger plane bound from Tehran to Sanaa landed at Al Hudaydah airport in western Yemen after airstrikes hit the runway at Sanaa.
The exchange tests a years-long truce between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-aligned movement. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the group struck Saudi Arabia's Abha airport with missiles and drones in response and warned airlines not to fly through Saudi airspace until the "siege" on Sanaa airport is lifted. Iran condemned the attack on Sanaa airport, and Al Jazeera reported a Houthi leader threatened Saudi "vital infrastructure."
