Trump Threatens to Add Wildfire Smoke Costs to Tariffs on Canadian Imports

politicstariffsworldcanadaus-foreign-policy 67 posts · 42 accounts

President Donald Trump threatened to add the cost of dangerous wildfire smoke entering the country to existing tariffs on Canadian imports. He declared that the United States is holding Canada responsible for failing to manage forests and remove debris, characterizing the smoke as willful negligence and adding he will call Prime Minister Mark Carney during the day.

Over 830 wildfires are currently burning across Canada, triggering hazardous air quality alerts for more than 100 million Americans in 18 states. The spreading smoke has prompted U.S. Republicans and conservative lawmakers to demand that the White House hold the Canadian government accountable for the cross-border health risks.
