Lightmatter Integrates Optical Interconnects in Nvidia NVLink Fusion to Cut Fiber Needs 50%

Lightmatter will integrate its Passage bidirectional optical interconnect technology into Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion ecosystem. By enabling simultaneous two-way signaling on a single optical path, the system reduces the required number of optical fibers and connectors in AI infrastructure by up to 50%.

The company will supply co-packaged optics and noise-pass optics products compatible with Nvidia’s optical and SerDes technologies. The integration allows hyperscale data center operators and AI chip developers to connect custom processors to Nvidia switch silicon within a unified architecture. Nvidia said the partnership provides partners and customers with more flexibility to build energy-efficient infrastructure at scale.
