University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Jumps to 54.4, Beating Forecasts as Inflation Expectations Drop
University of Michigan preliminary data showed U.S. consumer sentiment rose to 54.4 in July, beating market estimates for a 51. The reading marks the index's largest monthly gain in more than a year.
One-year inflation expectations fell to 4.2% from a prior reading of 4.6%, surpassing forecasts for 4.4%. Five-to-10 year inflation expectations held steady at 3.3%, matching estimates.
