Iran dispatched about 20 tankers carrying roughly $6 billion of crude oil to Asian buyers during a brief truce with the United States. The vessels, which likely headed to China, departed after Washington temporarily lifted its maritime blockade on Iranian shipping.
The export surge contrasts with a broader collapse in regional shipping traffic, with confirmed oil tanker transits through the Strait of Hormuz falling to a three-week low of eight vessels on July 16. While the short-lived ceasefire allowed a rapid deployment of cargoes, ongoing U.S. blockade enforcement and military strikes continue to severely restrict broader vessel movements in the Gulf.
