TSMC Confirms CoPoS Glass Substrate Pilot Line Maturity in Second Half of 2027

aiai-infrastructureai-compute-chipstech 95 posts · 29 accounts

TSMC management stated during its second-quarter earnings call that the company’s CoPoS glass-substrate pilot line will require about another year to reach maturity. The timeline points to the second half of 2027, at which point the firm will begin simulating the final 510-by-515-millimeter glass format on the pilot line, moving past the current 250-by-250-millimeter dimensions.

The remark clarified that the cost-reduction alternative refers to the glass carrier, while partnerships with substrate vendors apply to the glass core substrate. The company did not mention a glass interposer, aligning with its established architecture. Because a mature pilot line differs from mass production, supply chain equipment and materials suppliers currently tied to the technology may face shifts in final vendor selection. Management indicated that partners including Ibiden and Innolux could reference the same 2027 timeline during their upcoming earnings reports.
