South Korea Legalizes Stablecoins, Permits Spot ETFs in New Digital Asset Strategy
South Korea unveiled a comprehensive digital asset policy package that legalizes stablecoins and permits virtual asset spot ETFs through amendments to capital market laws. The government outlined a Basic Law on Digital Assets to govern stablecoin operations and cross-border transactions as part of the regulatory update.
The strategy also includes a pilot program for tokenized government bonds linked to the country’s central bank digital currency, with implementation scheduled for 2027. The policy covers the three major asset classes, integrating cryptocurrency into formal capital markets.
