Writers Guild Sues to Block Paramount’s $81 Billion Warner Bros. Merger
The Writers Guild of America filed a lawsuit to block Paramount’s $81 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, alleging the deal would reduce competition and suppress writers' wages. The complaint warns that with fewer rivals, the merged company would have the incentive and ability to lower output, leaving creators with less pay and fewer job opportunities.
The guild's filing follows a separate antitrust lawsuit by 12 states earlier in the week, marking the latest regulatory challenge to the transaction after federal regulators cleared the deal. The guild is seeking a court order to halt the merger, adding further pressure for Paramount as the company reportedly weighs relocating its headquarters out of California.
