Grupo Carso Buys 30% Stake in Mexican Gulf of Mexico Oil Block From TotalEnergies

Carlos Slim’s Grupo Carso agreed to purchase a 30% stake in the EP Mexico Block 30 offshore oil field from TotalEnergies, according to a securities filing. Harbour Energy will manage the remaining 70% of the Gulf of Mexico block, with the deal’s closing dependent on government approvals.

The acquisition expands Slim’s portfolio of Mexican energy assets outside state control. While state driller Petroleos Mexicanos is seeking private partners to address slumping crude output and financial pressures, Slim indicated earlier this year that his companies would avoid new joint ventures with the firm.
