Travelers Beats Second-Quarter Profit Estimates on $10.04 Earnings Per Share
Travelers reported second-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $10.04, significantly surpassing the estimated range of $5.16 to $6.51, as the insurer’s underlying combined ratio improved to 83.6%. Revenue came in at $12.15B, beating the $11.35B consensus estimate, on a 0.3% year-over-year increase.
The insurer returned more than $1.57B of excess capital to shareholders during the quarter, comprising $1.311B in share buybacks and a $1.25 dividend. Lower catastrophe losses of $518M helped offset an 8% decline in personal insurance premiums, while business insurance and bond and specialty premiums grew 3% and 14%, respectively.
