Coinspect Identifies Crypto Wallet Flaw Linked to $5 Million Drain on Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solano

cryptocrypto-hacks 4 posts · 4 accounts

Coinspect has identified a cryptocurrency wallet vulnerability dubbed "Ill Bloom" that has already enabled attackers to drain more than $5 million across multiple blockchains. The flaw stems from weak randomness in wallet key generation, allowing malicious actors to predict private keys and steal funds from wallets created since 2018.

The vulnerability affects wallets across Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Tron, and several Ethereum Layer 2 scaling networks. Exploitation began in late May, with approximately $3 million stolen on May 27 and an additional $2 million drained in recent days. Security firm Slowmist is monitoring the alert, and Coinspect has released an affected address checker while urging wallet providers to integrate weak mnemonic detection tools. The exact number of exposed wallets remains undisclosed, though thousands are believed to be at risk.
