Hormuz Oil Tanker Traffic Falls to Six Vessels as Attacks Stall Recovery

businessenergy-marketsoilpoliticsmaritimenatural-gas 143 posts · 49 accounts

Oil tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz slowed to a near standstill on Thursday, with just six vessels making the transit, down from 21 a day earlier, according to Kpler data cited by Bloomberg. Lloyd's List said traceable transits through the US-coordinated Omani lane had effectively ground to a halt after the latest escalation between Iran and the US.

The disruption is spreading through Gulf energy trade. People familiar with the matter said Qatar has paused plans to rapidly revive output at Ras Laffan, the world's largest LNG facility, after one of its tankers was attacked earlier this week, while London marine insurers reported fewer inquiries for Hormuz voyages and some higher premiums. Iran, meanwhile, rushed out six tankers carrying about 11 million barrels of crude in the past 24 hours.
