Tencent seeks $1.55 billion from block trade of Kuaishou stake
Tencent Holdings is seeking to raise as much as $1.55 billion through a block trade of part of its stake in short-video app operator Kuaishou Technology, according to a term sheet. The transaction involves a Tencent corporate unit selling a portion of its shares in the platform, which is one of China’s largest short-video destinations alongside ByteDance’s Douyin.
The sale marks another adjustment to Tencent’s investment portfolio as the tech conglomerate continues to manage external holdings. While specific buyers and the exact volume of shares remain undisclosed, the block trade reflects Tencent’s broader strategy of optimizing capital allocation while focusing on core operations in advertising, cloud services, and artificial intelligence.
