Iran Fires on Shipping in Strait of Hormuz as US Says 20 Vessels Transit
US and Iranian forces exchanged heavy missile and drone strikes around the Strait of Hormuz after IRGC forces fired at commercial shipping in the waterway, and US aircraft shot down an Iranian cruise missile and a one-way attack drone, according to a CENTCOM spokesman. Iran said it had again closed the strait, but CENTCOM said it remained open to lawful transit and a US official said about 20 commercial vessels transited the waterway with US military coordination over the last 24 hours, with several more crossing without it.
Tehran also targeted US facilities in states across the Gulf. Maritime authorities said the threat to shipping had reached 'Severe,' and Brent crude rose 3% at the open as the US and Iran exchanged strikes.
