Iran Warns of Harsh Response, Says US Breached MOU Less Than 20 Days After Signing
Iran warned of decisive action and a harsh response after U.S. strikes on southern Iran, accusing Washington of major violations of a memorandum of understanding less than 20 days after it was signed. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf listed the alleged breaches as violating Iranian adjustments in the Strait of Hormuz, threats of further strikes, reinstated oil sanctions, attacks on southern Iran and Israeli actions in Lebanon.
Iran's Foreign Ministry said the U.S. had repeatedly violated the accord both directly and through Israeli actions against Lebanon. Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said it would not accept U.S. interference in the management of the Strait of Hormuz and that only routes designated by Iran were safe for ships, while an Iranian lawmaker said the MOU had lost credibility and passage through the waterway must be coordinated with Tehran.
