U.S. Lifts License Restrictions on Nvidia, AMD and Cerebras Advanced Chip Sales to UAE
The U.S. Commerce Department announced Friday that it has lifted license requirements for the United Arab Emirates to import advanced computing items and servers. The policy change upgrades the UAE under trade rules, allowing approved companies including Nvidia, AMD and Cerebras to sell advanced artificial intelligence chips to the Gulf state without prior approval.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi called the policy shift an official admission that Abu Dhabi backed Washington’s military operations against Iran. Tehran had previously struck targets in the UAE during the conflict, citing the country’s hosting of U.S. military facilities and cooperation with Israel. The Commerce Department stated the updated controls recognize the UAE’s role as a U.S. major defense partner and its support for U.S. national security interests, including the campaign known as Operation Epic Fury.
