China Allows Top AI Firms to Buy Under 200,000 Nvidia H200 Chips
The Chinese government is preparing to approve purchases of fewer than 200,000 Nvidia H200 chips for major domestic artificial intelligence developers, including Alibaba, ByteDance and DeepSeek. The allocation will be restricted to training models on public datasets, while domestic processors are prioritized for inference workloads.
The licensing approval marks a continuation of a controlled technology pathway that began earlier this year.
