Strategy Sells 3,588 Bitcoin for $216 Million to Cover Dividend Payments
Michael Saylor’s corporate Bitcoin treasury, known as Strategy, sold 3,588 Bitcoin over the past two weeks for approximately $216 million to cover dividend payments on its digital credit securities. The company confirmed the liquidations in an SEC filing, reducing its total holdings to 843,775 BTC acquired at an average cost of $75,476 per token. The sales represent the first major monetization under a newly authorized program that allows the board to sell up to $1.25 billion in Bitcoin to meet fixed financing obligations.
The announcement triggered a brief selloff that pushed Bitcoin below $62,000 and erased $78 million in leveraged long positions before the asset recovered to trade around $64,000. While the pivot away from relentless accumulation has drawn scrutiny, Grayscale executive Zach Pandl and Strategy CEO Phong Le characterized the move as a reduction in financing tail risk. By monetizing Bitcoin to fund mandated dividends on credit instruments like $STRC and $STRF, the company aims to stabilize its capital structure and allow the cryptocurrency to find a more durable market bottom.
